Artist's Statement, July 2002

The Rain Series captures that fine line where a true marriage exists between the man-made and the natural elements, which ultimately combine, creating images that cannot exist without one or the other. This work is based on blurring the separation between these forces and revealing common ground. Rain Series depicts drops of water as they appear on a window or glass. When the camera lens focuses in on the droplets the background fades out of focus. At the same time inside the individual water droplet the outside world remains clear yet inverted - the same manner it appears on our retina.

I am interested in continuing to seek out and reveal this new aesthetic that encourages the viewer to see the world from different perspectives, as thoughts and memories, experiences and environments continuously appear and reappear in overlapping fragments. The images create resting spots, visceral places of contemplation.
